IASSCS' main activity
is the organization of international conferences. Six have
been organized so far:
The first conference, held in Amsterdam in 1997, was titled
"Beyond Boundaries: Sexuality across Cultures."
The second conference was organized in Manchester in 1999
under the title "Sexual Diversity and Human Rights."
The 2001 conference was organized in Melbourne, "Belief
Systems and the Place of Desire."
The 2003 conference was organized in Johannesburg under the
title "Sex
and Secrecy." See also the report on the Women's
Same-Sex Forum and the African Women Life History Project.
The 2005 conference was organized in San Francisco under
the title: Sexual Rights and Moral Panics.
The 2007 conference was organized in Lima under the title "Dis/organized Pleasures – Changing Bodies, Rights and Cultures"
