Venue For The XIth Iasscs Conference

The venue for the XIth IASSCS International Conference 2017 will be Chulalongkorn University, hosted by Dr. Sathirakorn Pongpanich and the College of Public Health Sciences at the university.

The conference will be held at the Conference Hall, which is located at 2nd floor Institute Building 3, Chulalongkorn University, Bangkok. Chulalongkorn University is located at the Phyathai Road, which is very conveniently located in the downtown area (Siam Square) and can be reached from the airport by Airport link and Bangkok Mass Transit System .

Tourist Visa Procedures, Documents and Formalities

Upon arrival in Thailand, foreign citizens must hold a valid passport with at least six months validity, a valid Thai visa, and proof on onward travel. Generally, a foreign citizen who wishes to enter the Kingdom of Thailand is required to obtain a visa from a Royal Thai Embassy or a Royal Thai Consulate-General. However, nationals of certain countries do not require a visa if they meet visa exemption requirements. Some conference delegates may need an invitation letter as a visa requirement. The invitation letter is issued by the College of Public Health Sciences – Chulalongkorn University. The deadline for requesting invitation letters was due on June 5. No more requests will be accepted.

Bangkok City: General Information and Tips

Arrival to Bangkok
From Suvarnabhumi Airport, participants could easily get to the city center by taking either Airport Rail Link serviced at the basement or Taxi on the 1st floor, Gates 4 and 7 of the platform of passenger terminal.

Taxi fare from the Suvarnabhumi Airport: Fare charged according to the distance traveled plus a fee of 50 Baht airport surcharge, and expressway fees.

Domestic Transportation
Thailand has several airlines – full service and low cost – competing on a large network of domestic routes. All of those listed here also fly regional international routes: THAI Smile, Nok Air and Air Asia are budget Airlines. Thai Airways provides full service and Bangkok Airways is somewhere in between. Conference participants from outside of Bangkok are encouraged to arrive Bangkok one day prior to the conference as well as depart Bangkok the day after the conference.

Local Transportation
Bangkok has probably the most diverse modes of transportation, ranging from motorcycle taxi to the family sized taxi, from underground to sky train. But traffic jams in Bangkok cannot be underestimated. Therefore, we advise you to allow some extra time to commute from one place to another.

Business Hours
Most private companies in Bangkok operate on a five-day week basis, usually from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Many stores are open seven days a week from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Government offices are generally open between 8.30 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. with a lunch break from noon to 1 p.m.

Climate and Weather
Thailand is a tropical country. The temperature all year round is about 26-33 degree celsius. High temperatures and humidity levels are experienced throughout the year. The country is hottest between March and May, and monsoon season runs from June to October. The cool season, runs from November to February. August is the rainy season and therefore we should have a temperature around 26-31 degrees.

The electric current is 220 volt AC (50 cycles) throughout the country. Plug adapter kits should be used with ítems, such as electric shavers, hair dryers, tape recorders and other appliances.

Light, loose cotton clothing is best. The conference will be held in the air conditioning room at all time, light jacket may be needed. A jacket is needed for formal meetings and dining in top restaurants. Neat clothes are required for entering temples or palaces.

Money Exchange

There are Exchange places available at the airport and around the university, like Super Rich Thailand located at the Siam Square Station (Sky Train station).

Exchange rate (aprox): 1 USD = 34.729 THB (as of 6 September 2016).

Chulalongkorn University International House (CU iHouse)

Is a 26-storey, 846-unit, on campus residence for international students and lecturers. Rooms come fully furnished with air conditioning, modern conveniences, 24-hour security and safety systems. All conference delegates (except delegates receving a scholarship) willing to book their accommodaiton at CU iHouse, should communicate first with Ms. Daonapa Methateeranant to informing their willingness to book their accommodation including the following information: Complete name (as appears in your passport) and check in and check out dates. Please note that CU iHouse does not allow to book accommodation by yourselves.
